Abstract:Shear design expressions in ACI 318-14 have limitations related primarily to beams with low percentages of flexural reinforcement, beams with high-strength concrete, and member size. Also, different design approaches are required for nonprestressed and prestressed members. This article shows that it is possible to eliminate these limitations, unify design methods, and provide for improved safety of concrete structures.
