Abstract:
The full stress-strain curves for very high-strength concretes have been dif-ficult to obtain owing to their brittle nature. In this investigation, over 70 cylinders of normal, medium, and high-strength concretes were tested using circumferential strain as the feedback control. Variables such as the rate of circumferential strain control, end conditions, strain measuring device, and specimen size were examined and compared to values obtained using more standard testing procedures. A foundation and basic guidelines for testing procedures are presented.
