Abstract:
The results of tests of 20 high-strength (60 to 90 MPa; 8700 to 13,000 psi) and ultra-high-strength (11.5 to 130 MPa; 17,000 to 19,000psi) reinforced concrete columns subjected to axial loads with small eccentricities are pre-sented. The columns were tested under the action of two applied loads to maintain zero strain at a predetermined point in the cross section during each test. The variables in the test series included concrete strength, con-finement steel (diameter spacing, and volumetric ratio), and the shape of the compression zone (rectangular and triangular).
