Abstract:
Proposed code changes are presented for prediction of immediate and long-term change in length and deflections of reinforced concrete members with or without prestressing. The equations of ACI 318-89 and the Canadian standard CAN3-A23.3 are reviewed critically for prediction of immediate and long-term deflection in one-way nonprestressed construction. A more accurate approach is pro-posed that is not overly difficult to apply in practice.
