Abstract:
It was with considerable pleasure that I accepted the invitation to present this lecture memorializing Professor Phil M. Ferguson. I first met Professor Ferguson shortly after coming to the United States in 1957. I came to know him very well through working with him on ACI technical committees, and he was especially helpful to me when I was considering making the switch from industrial research to academia in the United States.
