Abstract:
Lurking above the city streets, hidden among the ornamental stone and terra cotta, perched between scrolled cornices and patterened doorways, gargoyles peak out at passing pedestrians. The elaborate design of these turn of the century trolls and the building they guard is indicative of the competition among the architects who designed them and the pride of the building's owners who ordered them. Restoration of buildings like these requires present day craftsmen to maintain the artistic excellence of the past.
