Abstract:
Research has been conducted to study ultr-light-weight concrete materials, specifically for use in the construction of prefabricated concrete modular housing. The objective of this research program has been to develop a low weight material, with relatively low thermal conductivity; a material which will present sufficiently high mechanical properties required for the constructionof one- to two-story housing projects in an earthquake prone zone. Additionally, it was necessary to reach high consistencies and appropriate workability, assure low segregation, and avoid aggregate flotation. As in many practical applications, obtaining high compressive strength is not necessarily the main issue.
