Abstract:
The extent of damage to concrete structures during major earthquakes presents designers with the difficult task of evaluating structural performance under extreme loading conditions. The failures of high-rise buildings, elevated highways, and bridges have become a subject of intense investigation in many countries. The lessons learned from the analysis of the seismic resistance of marine structures, such as wharves, piers, breakwaters, etc., are considerably less known to the engineering community.
