Abstract:
In 1982, the 10 million liter (2.6 million gallon) capacity semi-underground reinforced concrete Clear Water Reservoir (CWR) was constructed and commissioned in a major city in northern India. Six months later, cracks had developed near the corners of the structure, resulting in water leakage. Ultimately, the cracking became so severe that it became virtually impossible for the reservoir to retain water.
