Abstract:
In 1994, our firm was retained to evaluate a 550,000 ft2 (51,000 m2) parking structure in Flint, Mich., which was showing signs of corrosion induced deterioration. The 1600-car, five-level structure was 27 years old at the time. Investigations showed extensive damage to the undbonded post-tensioning system in the slabs and some damage to post-tensioning in the beams. This damage was similar to other parking structures of this vintage containing unbonded paper-wrapped, button-headed post-tensioning. Our evaluations revealed the need for extensive repairs if the facility was to remain in use for an extended period.
