Abstract:
Construction loads to be considered in the design of formwork are presented. Provisions for design loads in existing codes and standards are examined and deficiencies and disparities among them are pointed out. At the present time, formwork is designed by using working stress principles. The application of limit state principles in formwork design is not possible due to the lack of data on the statistical variation of construction loads. For safe and economical design, critical combinations of construction loads should be considered and the transmission of construction loads to the inter-connected slabs by shores and reshores must be analyzed.
