Abstract:
Probabilistic considerations in the field of structural engineering have undergone significant advances over the past decade. The rationale for basing design codes on a formal analysis of uncertainty is discussed, along with a general overview of probabilistic formulations in codes. Specific alternatives related to the next revision of ACI 318, Building Code Requirements for Rein-forced Concrete, are included.
