Abstract:
Constructing piers in midstream on the major rivers and harbors of the nation is among the most challenging ventures undertaken by the construction industry. The methods used to build Pier NO. 2, the midriver pier for the Greater New Orleans Mississippi River Bridge No. 2, prove that by using a combination of older tech-niques with modifications, careful planning, and close supervision, the risks associated with midstream pier construction can be minimized.
