Abstract:
Research on factors affecting durability of concrete in marine exposures has yielded data that permits practical measures to minimize the likelihood of damage. Further work is needed to fully elucidate the interacting roles of constituents of cement with the chloride and sulfate ions of sea water. Additional research is also needed to fully appreciate the mechanisms that may accelerate the corrosion of fer-rous metal embedded in concrete exposed to the sea.
