Abstract:
Current structural design practice for reinforced concrete foundations for buildings located in seismic regions is often inadequate. Because of the complex nature of seismic foundation design, which include the consideration of soil irregularities and the foundation/soil interface, existing code provisions are limited. The latest code provisions for foundation design in seismic regions are discussed, and possible design recommendations gathered from the current literature are highlighted.
