Abstract:
Shotcrete provided a logical and economical answer to supporting and lining six different tunnel cross sections on the Position-Electron Project in Menlo Park, Calif. The one-half mile (0.8 km) of mined tunnels were driven through a very weak sandstone and both above and a substantial distance below the water table. Tunnel and lining design, specifications, construction, costs, problems, and reflections on shotcrete usage are discussed.
