Abstract:
Severe explosions and fire occurred at a Louisiana grain company terminal causing tremendous damage to the concrete slipformed silos. Washington and Illinois firms were contracted to perform visual inspection of the damage, perform tests on concrete and reinforcing, and prepare a report outlining the areas and extent of damage to the silos. A Columbus, Ohio, company prepared final drawings and specifications for the silo repairs and provided construction management during the actual repairs which included demolition and removal of bad concrete and reinforcement, sandblasting, shotcreting, casting new concrete, and pressure injection of epoxy to repair cracks.
