Abstract:
During a study of corrosion inhibitors, all samples of concrete containing sodium chloride that were soaked in an inhibitor solution underwent severe mortar deterioration. The mortar cracked and bulged without corrosion of reinforcing steel. Additional mortar samples were cast in an attempt to isolate the cause of deterioration. Although a definite cause was not determined, deterioration occurred only in mortar soaked in a solution containing calcium nitrite.
