Abstract:
A striking, award-winning airline pedestrian shelter at New York’s JFK International Airport consists of precast and cast-in-place concrete elements. Spanning between eleven precast concrete columns, longitudinal cast-in-place concrete beams carry both the gravity loads and arch thrusts of the acrylic barrel vault. Sample panels were made to assure that the new concrete color matched that of the nearby TWA terminal-a CIB annual award winner in 1962.
