Abstract:
In this article, noted architect I.M. Pei talks about the East Building of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. The designer of these two triangular structures, Mr. Pei, expresses his thoughts on such topics as why the coffer forms were crafted by cabinet makers, why was architectural concrete specified, why was pink marble an aggregate in white architectural concrete, and the esthetic appeal of concrete as a finish material.
