Abstract:
The construction of the Seabreeze Bridge in Daytona Beach, Fla., is part of a program to replace the existing bascule bridges over the intercoastal waterways in the State of Florida. In this case, the owner, Florida Department of Transportation opted for a segmental design, replacing the existing bridge with two segmental structures to separate east/west traffic. This article discusses the erection of the superstructure segments, the design of the superstructure and substructure, post-tensioning and prefabrication involved in this project. The selected construction method allowed an erection speed of up to 12 segments per day in a single shift.
