Abstract:
Concrete flat plates are vulnerable to brittle punching failure in an earthquake. Shear reinforcement can be used to produce earthquake-resistant slab-column connections. This is shown by the results of experiments on connections of edge columns to slabs with and without stud shear reinforcement, in the form of vertical rods with mechanical anchorages.
