Abstract:
Tensile bond specimens simulating a segment of the tensile portion of a reinforced beam between two successive tensile cracks were tested to gain information on the width of crack at the surface of the reinforcing bar. Magnitude of crack width was estimated by comparing the overall extension of the embedded bar with the extension of concrete adjacent to the bar. Crack width at the surface of a well-designed deformed bar was found to be significantly less than the width of crack measured at the exterior surface of concrete.
