Abstract:
This article analyzes the factors affecting the durability of cementitious repair materials, shrinkage testing methods and different approaches taken in establishing performance criteria. Based on analysis presented, a preliminary performance criteria for selection of repair materials were proposed, and experimental program for evaluation of this criteria was presented. The recommended approach would enable the selection of repair materials compatible with existing concrete, a consequence of which would be a more accurate performance prediction. In addition, this would provide a better understanding for improving material quality. Important critical steps for this approach include: consideration of material properties which affect durability; accelerated testing to define reliably future performance; development of performance criteria; development of a model for repair material response to the in-place performance based on accelerated test results.
