Abstract:
Tests of six beams reinforced with large diameter deformed bars are described. The bars in four of the beams were spliced with mechanical splices. Beam strengths were not affected splicing all bars at the same section. Crack widths near sections where all bars were spliced could be related to the load-deformation characteristics of the splices. At other sections, including sections where two-thirds of the bars were spliced, the maximum and mean crack widths were linearl related to cover over the reinforcement and reinforcement stress.
