Abstract:
This study deals with the safety of reinforced concrete columns designed for stability against fire. A Monte Carlo simulation technique is used to assess the probability of failure by taking into account the effect of temperature on statistical distributions. The reliability of columns exposed to fire appears particularly affected by variations in the parameters such as the design exposure time, slenderness, and steel ratios. A possibility for reducing this sensitivity is proposed.
