Abstract:
In Japan, the application of FRP is divided roughly into two categories. The first category consists of rebar and grid type FRP (fiber reinforced polymer reinforcement) that are used in place of steel reinforcement and PC materials. The second is fiber composite sheets that are used to repair and strengthen concrete members. In both cases, FRP offers unique properties that steel reinforcements do not have: corrosion resistance, light weight, high strength, and non-magnetism. These properties help to give concrete structures new and better performance and make them easier to build. This article looks at current developments and applications of FRP in Japan and the future potential of this material.
