Abstract:
The design of a launched bridge requires a considerable amount of calculation since the highest launching stresses must be researched between an infinite number of support configurations. In practice, this research is done by discretizing the deck movement by calculating bending moment and shear force diagrams in a sequence of closely spaced support configurations to simulate, with adequate reliability, the course of launching to obtain the highest values by envelopment. The need to analyze hundreds of diagrams suggests the adoption of the reduced-transfer-matrix method—an agile and fast algorithm for the solution of continuous beam that provides an exact, intuitive, and elegant solution.
