Abstract:
ACI 211.2, "Standard Practice for Selecting Proportions for Structural Lightweight Concrete," describes two methods for proportioning concrete containing lightweight aggregate--the weight method and the volume method. To automate these methods, a MATLAB-based graphical user interface (GUI) was produced. Users interact with the program in ways that are familiar to nearly all computer users, and explanatory notes are provided as help files to guide the user on decision-making. The program calculates material weights for an initial trial batch from given performance criteria and can also be easily updated when ACI 211.2 is updated. The steps taken to develop the interface and verify the results are summarized. The program files can be downloaded with the online version of the article.
