Abstract:
Chemical admixtures are often the only feasible means to achieve specified concrete properties. In some applications, multiple admixtures are used to achieve these properties. Because many admixtures modify the concrete primarily by interacting with cement to change the hydration process, however, their combinations must be carefully evaluated and controlled. This point is illustrated by a recently investigated mixture containing multiple admixtures that exhibited undesirable behaviors after a cement source change.
