Abstract:
The sustained demand for supplementary cementitious materials in combination with the decrease in availability of freshly produced fly ash has created a unique set of challenges and opportunities. Several completed projects across the country have demonstrated that harvesting and beneficiating previously impounded coal ash is a successful approach to satisfy market demand. Furthermore, these successes have all demonstrated the ability to produce both high quality and sustainable materials. This presentation will highlight the benefits of these materials, and the lessons learned in their development. Objectives: 1. Discuss the changing landscape of SCM availability and supply 2. Share new alternatives to traditional materials 3. Educate audience regarding the variety of technologies used in coal ash harvesting 4. Discuss how use of harvested materials can help to achieve sustainability goals
