Abstract:
The new Guide for Responsibility in Concrete Rehabilitation, developed by Committee 132, covers the responsibility of key team members in a rehabilitation program, many of which vary significantly from those occurring in new construction. Clear program definition and delineation of program goals, performance expectations, and service life and maintenance cycles, are essential. The standard of care for the licensed design professional is often expanded in rehabilitation programs, beginning with condition assessments. Concealed and changed field conditions are a fundamental part of rehabilitation. The program will benefit facility owners, design professionals, contractors and material suppliers who undertake rehabilitation programs. Session attendees will learn about key owner defined project criteria, challenges faced by the LDP in performing suitable condition assessments, critical design and contract document scope definition to address inevitable concealed and changed conditions, delegated design facets and clear delineation of responsibility between the LDP and Specialty Engineer, and other key facets to consider in planning and implementing a successful rehabilitation program.
