Abstract:
This presentation will discuss the DEF with respect to our current code limits. ACI 301 limits mass concrete temperature to 160°F to control delayed ettringite formation (DEF) in concrete structures. Where did this value come from? Is it conservative? Why does the ACI 201 durability code allow concrete temperature to be 185°F if a percentage of Portland cement is replaced by fly ash, slag, or silica fume?
