Abstract:
While BIM has become a widely used technology in the design and construction industry, it is becoming increasingly necessary for professionals to find new ways to represent, communicate and standardize BIM data, as the industry makes further advances in the digital delivery process. The ACI 131 Committee has been working on the development of BIM project deliverables, based on neutral IFC standards for the cast-in-place concrete industry since 2009. This presentation provides a brief history of the committee including summarizing the ACI documents that have been published as well as the ongoing documents in development. The presentation will provide some examples of how the current exchanges, when fully implemented, could provide alternative paths for concrete information delivery, thereby disrupting the conventional information communication process, noting the benefits associated with this new approach
