Abstract:
Miniature Concrete Prism Test (MCPT) was developed, as a more reliable alternative to ASTM C1260 method (AMBT) and a rapid alternative to ASTM C1293 method (CPT), to evaluate the alkali-reactivity of aggregates. Past research has shown that MCPT is as reliable as the CPT method in evaluating both aggregate reactivity and the ability of supplementary cementitious materials in mitigating the effects of alkali-silica reaction (ASR). However, standard test methods such as MCPT and others are often criticized for not being suitable to evaluate the ASR susceptibility of potential job concrete mixtures, as job mixtures deviate significantly from standard test mixtures in terms of mixture composition and exposure conditions. This presentation summarizes the findings from a study conducted to develop a protocol based on MCPT to evaluate the ASR potential of job mixtures.
