Abstract:
The current ACI Report for the Design of Concrete Structures for Blast Effects (PRC-370-14) does not include information on new steel and concrete materials such as high-performance steel materials (e.g., MMFX, etc.) and Ultra-High-Performance Concretes. The proposed revisions to this document will draw attention to these materials and the possibilities they provide. This presentation will introduce these classes of materials and highlight the properties that may provide significant benefits. These include high strength, high ductility, and greater shear capacity. The presentation will also highlight current gaps in knowledge that must be explored if these materials are to become fully utilized in protective design.
