Abstract:
Transitional masonry facades were common in the United States in buildings constructed from the late nineteenth century to the mid twentieth century. Transitional masonry facades are part of buildings that are framed with a structural concrete or steel and consist of an inner masonry backup wall and an outer wythe made of brick masonry or cast stone. The structural elements (concrete or steel columns and beams) are encased by the masonry walls.
