Abstract:
Accelerated bridge construction (ABC) is gaining popularity worldwide due to its many benefits, including shorter on-site construction time, reduced impact on traffic patterns, minimized weather-related delays, and decreased environmental impact. In addition, ABC uses innovative construction and design techniques, often incorporating prefabricated elements such as foundations, cap beams, and columns. ABC is particularly useful in seismic regions, as it helps improve bridge construction and seismic resilience by strengthening connections between prefabricated components. This talk will explore the many advantages of ABC bridge connections, particularly in moderate to high seismic regions, and will highlight how ABC can be used to enhance infrastructure and improve resilience in the face of seismic events.
