Abstract:
Flexural externally bonded CFRP reinforcement anchored with U-wraps exhibits improved strain utilization over unanchored CFRP. The addition of U-wrap anchors was also shown to shift failure mode from CFRP debonding to CFRP rupture or U-wrap anchor-controlled failure modes. While it is assumed that U-wraps can “serve double duty”—as flexural reinforcement anchorage and supplemental shear reinforcement—there is a lack of data supporting this conjecture. The present study aims to quantify the effectiveness of U-wraps in enhancing the shear capacity of shear-deficient reinforced concrete beams and increasing strain utilization of longitudinal CFRP reinforcement. The test program consists of twelve T-beams measuring 610 mm (flange width) x 457 mm (section height). The beams will be tested under four-point flexure over a 4.3-m span. The testing is currently in progress and results will be reported at the ACI session.
