Abstract:
This research extends the potential of using FRP doubly strengthened sheets in reinforced concrete beams by applying FRP U-wrap anchors. Four reinforced concrete beams were cast and tested under four-point bending to failure. The beams were divided into two groups: the first beam in the control group was strengthened with one layer of tension FRP. The second beam is identical to the first beam but was further strengthened with two layers on the compression face. The anchored group consisted of two beams. The first beam strengthened with two FRP layers in compression and one FRP layer in tension was secured with a single layer of distributed U-wrap anchoring the tension FRP only. The second anchored beam was identical to the first anchored beam except for applying two layers of U-wrap to secure the tension FRP. Analytical prediction model was used to predict the capacity of the strengthened beams.
