Abstract:
Project teams can and should expect that there will be concrete compressive strength test results that will be less than the specified strength. This presentation will present reasons why we should expect low concrete break test results, and rational approaches to examine whether the placed concrete is acceptable. Acceptance is determined primarily by using engineering judgment, testing reserve cylinders, and extracting cores only if evaluation is warranted. This approach benefits owners by allowing the development of more optimized concrete mixes that are more economical and sustainable and complies with the ACI 318-19 Code.
