Abstract:
Cold Weather Concreting can be a significant problem where the specific surface of the member is large, where the subgrade is cold and the bars even colder. The solution often proposed prior to the work of Dr. Suprenant was to heat everything up. This leads to costs and constructability issues that are put in the hands of the contractor to solve. Dr. Suprenant’s work in each of these areas has fundamentally changed the approach for contractors and designers to understand the tension between heat, heat of reaction, heat capacity and the environmental conditions. The presentation will present these changes in terms of the contributions of Dr. Suprenant to Construction and Engineering practice.
