Abstract:
A large-scale experimental investigation of three different tapered plate dowel geometries at multiple offset joint locations was completed. The tests gather data on a single static dowel action to compare their deflection and ultimate shear capacity performance. The difference in tapered dowel performance was most significantly in their punching shear capacity. An equation was proposed to predict punching shear capacity of loaded plate dowels based on solutions for studded anchors in precast concrete. The proposed design equation was checked against approximately 50 plate dowel tests from new and old experiments.
