Abstract:
There are many misconceptions regarding GFRP internal reinforcement, this presentation will analyze what those misconceptions are. This will include, lack of ductility due to its linear elastic behavior until fractured, lack of fire resilience because it is similar to plastic, and cold temperature brittleness. More common misbeliefs include there is susceptibility to creep rupture and alkaline like a hidden time bomb, and for serviceability limit state design, it needs 3 times as much of GFRP compared with steel due to the low modulus of GFRP (60 GPa vs 200 GPa).
