Abstract:
Silicate-based liquid surface treatments react with available calcium hydroxide to convert it to CSH. These silicate treatment products are referred to as surface hardeners and/or densifiers. Their effectiveness depends on the amount of calcium hydroxide available which curing enhances but conflicts with pozzolans and carbon dioxide. Silicate-based liquid surface treatments are often used to improve the appearance of the floor when "polished" by successive scrubber passes. Is there a measurable improvement in wear resistance and does increased CSH effectively stop vapor transmission?
