Abstract:
Compared to the material, structural, and software aspects of construction 3D printing, quality monitoring and control of this process has not been investigated as extensively. Quality monitoring and control is a critical aspect of any fabrication process. In construction, it is of utmost importance since product failure could endanger human lives. In this presentation, quality monitoring of construction 3D printing will be discussed. Initially, recent advances in construction 3D printing and its various application areas will be briefly reviewed. Then, quality monitoring and control of this process will be discussed as a major challenge in this research field. Several innovative techniques will be presented and discussed as real-time extrusion quality monitoring measures for construction 3D printing. Based on the experimental data, these techniques will be compared in terms of reliability and responsiveness.
