Abstract:
Layer-Extrusion 3D Concrete Printing (E3DCP) is rapidly gaining popularity around the globe. An increasing number of commercial entities is involved in actual construction projects, reaching from one up to several floors. Due to the brittle nature of cementitious mortars, this requires the integration of reinforcement to provide tensile strength and ductility. As conventional reinforcement techniques are incompatible with the E3DCP process, new technologies are being developed. In this presentation, the state-of-the-art of E3DCP reinforcement technologies will be discussed, with a focus on research developments in this area at the TU Eindhoven. This includes printable strain-hardening cementitious composites (SHCC), directly entrained reinforcement cable, and screw-type reinforcements. The potential and challenges associated with each of these methods will be highlighted.
