Abstract:
Service life modeling offers significant value for assessing the condition of existing structures and can guide decisions regarding the timing and design of repairs to extend the life of a structure. This presentation discusses case studies from field investigations and service life modeling of in-service structures where chloride induced corrosion was the primary durability concern. For these cases, input parameters were collected through comprehensive field assessments and laboratory testing of material samples. Service life modeling was performed using WJE’s in-house model to predict the remaining service life of the structure and to provide a basis for recommendations for repair design. Present deterioration levels were checked against predicted values to validate the model results. Modeling approaches for special cases such as concrete overlays and two-sided exposures will be discussed.
