Abstract:
A new class of clay-mitigating admixtures has been developed to mitigate absorption of polycarboxylate-based high-range water-reducing admixtures by clay-bearing aggregates. This absorption can cause reduced dosage efficiency and increased slump loss over time, thereby resulting in increased dosage rates for polycarboxylate-based admixtures. The article summarizes field tests that show that these clay-mitigating admixtures provide a robust solution when used with a wide array of clay-bearing aggregates.
