Abstract:
Zero-slump concrete can be used for weight coating of steel pipes used for the underwater transmission of natural gas, primarily to provide negative buoyancy for the pipe sections. This concrete is prepared using heavyweight (iron ore) aggregates and typically has a water-cement ratio of 0.33. Results of the study described in this article indicate that void contents can be reduced using water-cement ratios that exceed the typical value. This will allow for cost savings through reductions in the proportion of heavyweight aggregate in the mixture.
